3 Fun Getaways to Get Outside With Young Kids

It’s easy to feel like a shut-in when you have a new child, especially if she’s born during a rainy or cold season. And while day trips can work wonders, sometimes a bona fide family getaway is in order.

Doctors typically recommend that you wait a few months before flying with a newborn (and some smart family air travel tips can help), but beyond that, the world is your oyster. Disney World, camping, and an exotic safari may be out of the question at this point, but there are plenty of hotspots nowadays that specifically cater to parents with young kids. Just choose the kind of vacation you’re craving and steal away.

1. Luxury at the Beach

The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun

After giving birth and making it through too many sleepless nights, you deserve some serious TLC. This elegant beachside resort in Mexico caters to you (award-winning spa, cooking lessons, sunrise yoga) and your little one.

Book an “Itzy Bitzy Baby Room,” which aims to be as comfortable and convenient as a home nursery. It includes a crib, changing table, miniature hangers in the closet for your baby’s wardrobe, and a telephone that lights up instead of rings for maximum nap time. Brilliant.

2. Cruising on the Open Seas

Royal Caribbean Cruises

At last count, six of their fleet’s ships (Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas, Splendor of the Seas), offer the Royal Babies and Tots program, which includes a nursery for babies 6 to 36 months ($8 per hour), and the awesome ability to pre-order necessities like organic baby food!

3. Fun in the Sun Down South

Club Med Sandpiper, Port St. Lucie, Florida

While you’re playing golf or flying on the resort’s trapeze, the Baby Club Med program ($90/day) takes excellent care of babies 4 to 23 months old. Caregivers take your tykes for walks, play educational activities, sing songs, and put them down for naps.

At 6 pm, the resort has a special Baby Restaurant, if you want to have a family dinner (you’ll be surprised by how much less stressed you feel dining out in a baby-friendly eatery).

Or if you’re craving some couple time, you can drop your baby off at the Pajama Club, open until 1 a.m ($28 per night). Babies stay free and rooms come equipped with complementary cribs, changing tables, strollers, high chairs and infant tubs. Less gear for you to worry about equals less stress and a happier trip!
