5 Ways the California Baby Eco Traveler Is My Parenting Life Saver

We’re big-time overpackers in our household. Somehow, a quick weekend getaway always involves many more overstuffed bags than any average family should need. When our daughter was only two months old, we took a 10-hour flight to Hawaii and packed stacks of diapers, wipes, bottles, my breast pump, and dozens of other infant accoutrements because we had no clue what we’d be able to buy once we got there. (As it turns out, there were several well-stocked stores in close proximity to the house we were renting.)

yhst-83878190403399_2270_5952608Over the years, we’ve gotten better about paring down. In fact, now when we travel, we try to look for a hotel or condo that has a mini kitchen and a washer/dryer. Having the ability to do the laundry at least once during a week-long stay helps us cut down on the number of clothes we pack—and takes away some of the stress of feeling like we’ve somehow underpacked.

Still, I always love finding things that help us consolidate even more. Enter: the California Baby Eco Traveler tote. It comes pre-loaded with 11 California Baby favorites that are all handy travel sizes. Here are five ways it’s saved us while we travel (and beyond):

1. The Products Do Double-Duty

Not only does the Overtired & Cranky Bubble Bath smell great (like tangerine and chamomile), it can also double as handwash when you’re on the go, which is ultra-helpful when your little one sticks her hand on some dirty airplane bathroom parts during a diaper change.

2. The Travel Caddy Is Reusable

The caddy is reusable. We repurposed ours to hold first-aid supplies! In fact, we stick it in the car every day even when we’re not taking long trips. But you can also use it to carry things like crayons and other art supplies or hair accessories. It’s phthalate and BPA free plastic and trimmed with hemp and linen fabric.

3. It’s a Master at Distraction

We learned over time that one of the keys to happy travel with the kids involves becoming a master at distraction: have plenty of snacks, toys, and other visual distractions ready. And remember: there’s no such thing as a foolproof plan. You may think that you have your entire six-hour flight planned down to the last minute, but things happen: take-offs and landings can be delayed for several hours, airplane televisions may not work, you just don’t know. One of the cool things about the Eco Traveler? There’s a fun activity sheet included inside with language flash cards. No extra packing involved.

4. Jelly Mousse Rules

I steal my husband’s grooming products all the time, and I’m not above using the kids’ things from time to time, too. One product I’m in love with: California Baby’s Jelly Mousse. It’s alcohol-free and starch-based, plus totally free of all the harsh chemicals that other grownup products use. On a recent trip to Florida, it was a true lifesaver when I forgot to pack any hair products for myself (and the Orlando humidity took over!).

5. We Completely Trust the Sunscreen Like No Other

The more you know about the chemicals that are put in most conventional sunscreens on the market, the more you realize the need for a good alternative. When our son was a baby, we tried a few other natural options but weren’t happy with the results. The formulations either smelled terrible or didn’t apply smoothly, making it pretty impossible to get our little wiggly guy properly covered. A mom in our playgroup recommended California Baby and we’ve never looked back. It’s titanium based and made with organic and sustainably grown ingredients. (There’s a reason it’s won so many Best Sunscreen awards!)
