If you grew up in a certain era, the words talc and talcum powder were commonplace when it came to caring for babies. Talc is a mineral substance used in products from baby powders to eye shadows. Some talc may contain the known carcinogen asbestos.
According to the American Cancer Society, talc has been linked to an increased risk in ovarian cancer and lung cancer. And the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies talc that contains asbestos as “carcinogenic to humans.”
Look for talc-free baby powder (like California Baby Calming Organic Powder) and mineral makeup.
